Cage Your Rage utilizes a gender-responsive approach through the use of curriculums that are specifically designed for men (CYR-men) and for women (CYR-women). Participants attend CYR once a week for ninety minutes per group session for ten weeks. Participants attend STARS twice a week for two hours per group session for twelve weeks.Ĭage Your Rage is endorsed by the American Correctional Association (ACA) as a best practice program designed to help offenders recognize their angry feelings, learn their cause, and deal with them in a responsible way. STARS course provides offenders nearing their release, a structured and detailed approach to addressing each major re-entry barrier that ex-offenders face when returning to community life. The STARS curriculum also includes an inmate workbook titled Living on the Outside. Chapters include employment, housing, transportation, education, family reunification, finances, and others. STARS is a 12-week release preparatory program designed to address each major reentry barrier faced by the returning offender. Office of Transitional Services developed and implemented the Successful Transition and Reentry Series (STARS) program. Successful Transition and Reentry Series (STARS) Participants attend T4C twice a week for 90 minutes per session for ten weeks. T4C is the cognitive behavioral change program adopted by the department for cognitive behavioral change. T4C is a 10-week cognitive-behavioral program, endorsed by the National Institute of Corrections as a best practice approach for reducing recidivism. With this in mind, I plan to work with the Executive Board to increase awareness and remind all California Sheriff’s agencies, and our program and service providers, that CJPA is a valuable asset in our common purpose to transform lives and affect change through jail programs.Thinking for a Change (T4C). My goal this year is to foster one of CJPA’s main goals networking. Best of all, CJPA has allowed us to share those ideas with our colleagues. We have created new ways to deliver programs and services. However, it has provided us opportunities to review new ideas and concepts. This global pandemic has wreaked havoc on our abilities to provide programs and services for our respective agencies. I thank you for helping to keep CJPA going in a difficult and challenging time. I am humbled to be the newest President of the California Jail Programs Association (CJPA). I am Sergeant Brian Gallaway of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. Professional inmate programs and services have been proven to reduce recidivism and assist facilities maintain a safer environment for detention staff.īrian Gallaway- CJPA President President’s Message We network to review innovative practices that improve the quality of inmate programs in any agency despite dwindling budget resources. We are invested in developing programs and services that meet the demands of the increasing inmate population with cost effective, results oriented programming, in a safe and secure environment. The goal of CJPA is to rapidly share information, review best practices and evidence based modalities in program delivery. CJPA members understand the unique aspects of jail programming and services. The membership is made up of both sworn and non-sworn professionals in corrections, program management, educational, vocational, psych-social services, recreation, pastoral care and behavioral health, from both large and small county jails. The California Jail Programs Association (CJPA) is the only organization that addresses the multiple challenges of inmate programming and custodial services in California.
